Lori Ann Mackowski

Lori Ann Mackowski

When Lori Mackowski graduated from Bishop McGuinness Memorial High School in Winston-Salem, North Carolina in 1990, she planned to continue her education in a Catholic college by attending Belmont Abbey College. During her visits to the college as a high school student, Lori discovered exceptional educational opportunities and a rich Catholic heritage. Belmont Abbey College was an excellent fit for her educational aspirations and she planned to enroll in the fall of 1990.

Dreams were diverted over the summer, when Lori needed to make the very difficult decision to pursue her college education at a state college, closer to home. While working full-time and adding some part-time employment to pay for her education, Lori enrolled at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. After 12 years of industrious work balancing classes with her jobs, Lori received her bachelor's degree in 2003. She continued her education at UNCG, working on her master's degree. In May 2010, Lori earned her Master of Arts degree in Communication Studies. By investing 20 years of her life in the pursuit of higher education, Lori was finally able to celebrate her educational achievements.

As Lori reflected on her educational journey she knew she wanted to help others facing similar challenges. She contacted Belmont Abbey College to inquire about ways she could assist other female students who share her passion for education, but struggle with the financial burden of paying for college. Lori decided to make a bequest to Belmont Abbey College. Her gift will be used for a scholarship for industrious female students in financial need, who wish to pursue studies at the college. Although Lori was unable to attend Belmont Abbey College, her strength of character, motivation, perseverance, vision, values and generosity are attributes valued by the college and ones they seek in their students. Lori's bequest will enable other women with similar attributes and circumstances to pursue their educational dreams at Belmont Abbey College. Beyond the financial support the scholarship offers, the story of Lori's quest for education and her motivation to make this bequest will inspire students to embrace life and do things to positively impact future generations.

You also may want to make it easy and convenient to have a bequest included in your will. The language below shows how a bequest can very easily be included in your will.
